Dear FoHL Supporter,
I hope you are coping with the heatwave. Our Lagoon Pavilion plants are surviving, chiefly because they were selected by our local landscape designer Nicholas Dexter for their drought tolerance and they were all watered in well when they were planted. We are still getting loads of plaudits for the planting, so many thanks to Chris, Joanne, Tom and the garden volunteers for all their hard work.
A few bits of info from me:
Our 2022 Grand Raffle launches on Saturday. Please see the attached leaflet. If you would like to buy some tickets (£1 each,) visit us at our gazebo at the Lagoon on Saturdays 23rd & 30th July and 6th & 13th August – weather permitting. We are happy to deliver tickets locally (via Lagooneroo). If you would like to sell some raffle tickets for us, please let me know. The list of the wonderful prizes and their donors will be at our gazebo and on our website and Facebook pages. More info in the next Hovarian. The proceeds will be going towards Lagoon improvements. If you have any useful ideas to make Hove Lagoon even more wonderful, let me know.
Talking of which, we have been having a “few words” with the council about the lack of grass cutting (apart from the bits that David, a local resident cut at his own expense..) and the demise of the Outdoor Gym – subjects close to many of your hearts. Our conversations continue… And we have been told that the Paddling Pool will be open again on or near 22 July – it will probably be snowing by then!
The Kingsway to the Sea Scheme was agreed by the council’s Policy and Resources Committee last week and will now be submitted to the Planning Committee for consent. Discussions will continue with local groups and businesses about the details, and we continue to be heavily involved. I will provide more info when we have it.
The FoHL AGM and next committee meeting will be held on Wednesday 7th September from 7pm in the Gather Inn downstairs function room. All supporters are very welcome to attend and to stand for the committee. More info nearer the time.
Another reminder that we need your hi res photos of the area (in landscape orientation) for our FoHL/HDSA 2024 Calendar. Proceeds are going to local charities. More info on our social media platforms.
Finally, I’d like to thank Tania and the Kane family at the Gather Inn for allowing us to meet there and to store some of our equipment. They are very kind to us, as were the Big Beach Cafe before them. Aren’t we lucky?
Best wishes and enjoy the summer holidays!
Sue Johnson, FoHL Secretary
