The outdoor gym at Hove Lagoon has been derelict for years.
FoHL are running a project to raise funds to replace the gym. Please read on for details about our fundraising initiatives, the gym site, our public consultation and the proposed design of the gym.

Fundraising
On 25th July 2025 the Outdoor Gym Fundraising Project began with the unveiling of a new sign generously provided by local Estate Agents Sawyer & Co., who have also kickstarted our fund with an amazing donation of £500!
We had speeches from FoHL Chair David Flack, Andy Garth of Sawyer and Co., and Cllr Bella Sankey.
We are also very pleased that local comedian Zoe Lyons, a devoted user of the old Outdoor Gym, and long-term Friend of Hove Lagoon, is endorsing our campaign!
Following an extensive public consultation FoHL have drawn up a specification for the gym. We have received quotations from a number of reputable outdoor gym suppliers, and are in the process of applying for grants from a variety of funding bodies.
We are also calling on the public for help! We have set up a GoFundMe page, and will be running various fundraising initiatives. Watch this space!

Public consultation about the replacement of the gym
From August 2023 until July 2025 we ran a consultation here on this page.
Thank you to everyone who took part!
Summary of the responses to our public consultation
60 people responded, all in favour of a replacement for the outdoor gym. Many had used the old gym and/or said they would use a new one.
We also had a few offers to volunteer, and even to help out financially – thanks folks!
Health and Wellbeing
People used the old gym daily, and to many it was a lifeline for social connection and self care. Without it there is no free-to-use adult gym on the City sea front.
Planning and Accessibility
The previous gym was limited, was not beginner-friendly, and it lacked durability. Locals want the new gym to be thoughtfully designed and well maintained.

Proposed design of the Outdoor Gym
Based upon the feedback we received, and bearing in mind that our seafront location limits the choice of equipment, this is the list of requirements we have drawn up:
- Wet pour safety surfacing
- Monkey bars
- Pull up bars
- Vertical ladder
- Dip bars
- Balance beams
- Sit up bench
- Stepping/jumping platforms
- Free space for yoga and handstands
Here is an artist’s impression of the proposed design. Please note this model is NOT TO SCALE and the finished gym will almost certainly have different colours and equipment designs, depending upon the eventual choice of supplier.
We intend to provide equipment that is height-accessible for as many people as possible. The gym will be suitable for adults and older teenagers.
