Friends of Hove Lagoon

Friends of Hove Lagoon (or FoHL for short) began life in 2016 at the time when the outdoor gym by the small pool had just been built, and the new HOVE LAGOON mural was about to be painted.

FoHL is a group of concerned and connected local residents and businesses based in the Hove Lagoon area. 👁️ Tap HERE to learn more about Hove Lagoon.

We do all our work as volunteers, and have only limited funds which we have raised by holding events, applying for funding schemes, and by receipt of generous donations from our supporters.

Our projects

The Planting Scheme

An early focus of the group was the extensive and somewhat neglected grassy area around the Lagoon. A working group was formed, and their ideas eventually led to the realisation of the Hove Lagoon Planting Scheme gardens – read more here.

Lagoonfest and other events

To raise funds for the Planting Scheme, and to bring an exciting new focus to the area, FoHL came up with the idea of Lagoonfest, holding two successful festivals in 2018 and 2019. In 2020 we held the family Big Picnic, and in 2021 the Lagoonfest Raffle. 2024 brought the biggest LagoonFest yet! Read more here.

FoHL activities

Clean Up and Weeding parties

FoHL try to organise regular group cleaning and weeding activities throughout the year. Of notable success have been the Clean Ups held in partnership with Surfers Against Sewage, and the Weedathon sessions organised by committee member David Flack to tackle weed overgrowth on the pavements and around the lawns.
