Footpath closures at Hove Lagoon 2024

The construction work for the council’s Kingsway to the Sea programme has started at Hove Lagoon and will continue until the end of April.

The north-south path and the eastern entrance to the Big Beach Cafe and the Promenade from Kingsway has been closed off in order for a shallower sloping path into the Lagoon to be built, for the existing toilets to be improved/be more accessible and for the cafe to have a storage extension added.

The Skatepark will remain penned until the new one is completed in the new wheeled sports area on the adjacent lawn. The Lagoon FunPlay rides will be relocated to the existing Skatepark in October – after LagoonFest on 7th September. There will also be some resurfacing undertaken on the north- south path, and some additional planting undertaken once the construction work has been completed.

Whilst the works take place the cafe and the playground will only be accessible from the western side of the Lagoon, and the small swings in the northeast corner of the playground will be out of commission.

If you would like further information and/or to receive the monthly newsletter from Morgan Sindall, the contractor, then please email rob.hendley@morgansindall.com

You can also find more information about the whole project on the Kingsway to the Sea pages of the Brighton & Hove Council website.

Separate to these temporary access changes, council funds have been allocated for improvements to the playground. Consultation will take place on what should be included. We have suggested equipment for older children and for children with disabilities. It is likely to take a year for these improvements to be completed.

In addition, Friends of Hove Lagoon is intending to apply for funding to replace our outdoor gym, but it will take some time to apply for the funds and to consult residents. Watch this space!
